Three years ago, I hit a low point in my life. The Covid pandemic had hit hard, and I was working offshore on oil rigs when I got made redundant. To make matters worse, I was living in Spain, and the lockdowns were particularly strict. I turned to heavy drinking, and before I knew it, I had gained a lot of weight. I felt helpless and had no choice but to move back to the UK.
Once I was back in the UK, I knew I had to do something about my weight. I decided that if I raised money for a charity, it would give me the motivation and commitment to stick to my weight loss goals. I signed up for a 10 km virtual run for cancer research and set a target of raising £500. I managed to raise £1250, but more importantly, I lost over a stone in weight.
The following year, I continued on my weight loss journey and decided to raise money for a local charity called the Osborne Trust in Rhyl, North Wales. I set a goal of raising £1,250 to beat last years total amount but I managed to raise an impressive £3,005, far surpassing my expectations. It felt amazing to give back to the community and to see the positive impact that my efforts had on others.
This year, I have continued on my journey to a healthier life. I have lost nearly three stone in weight, and I am now raising money for Help for Heroes. My current challenge is to walk up the Inca Trail in Machu Picchu and raise £3,500. I am proud to say that I am on track to meet my target, having raised £3,100 so far.
Donate NowBut my fundraising efforts are not the only way that I am challenging myself. I have also entered the ROC Wales Triathlon Half Ironman and the Gordieman Full Ironman in September. I have just Climb Mount Toubkal the Highest mountain in North Africa at 4167 Meters that is 4 times high than Snowdon Mountain.
These challenges are a testament to how far I have come on my journey and how much I have grown as a person. Looking back at where I was three years ago, I never would have imagined that I could achieve all that I have today. The journey has not been easy, but it has been worth it. I have learned that by setting goals and committing to them, I can achieve great things, not just for myself but for others too. I hope that my story can inspire others to make positive changes in their lives, no matter how big or small.
